If there are no notifications, this is probably due to the settings on your internet router. Here are a few things you can do try to tackle the issue:
For 1 and 2, you may need to consult with your Internet Services Provider
1 - Adjust the power of your firewalls at a router level;
2 - Change the encryption of your Wi-Fi key to WPA-PSK or to WPA2-PSK;
3 - Activate notifications, and cellular data on your smartphone;
If it still doesn't work, you can try to switch to a cable-based installation (RJ45);
Note: Make sure you're running compatible versions of your system on your smartphone (iOS: 7.0 and above / Android: 2.2 and above)
